The best time to visit the temple is June to September due to pleasant weather.  The monsoons may affect access to the temple while the snow in winter months can also block access.

Overview

Located 10 kms from the Sald Village near the district headquarters of Uttarkashi, Shree Jaganth Temple is nestled in the Barahat Himalayan Forest Range at a height of 3000 ft above sea level.  This ancient and lesser-known spiritual site is dedicated to Lord Jaganath, a form of Lord Vishnu.

 

The temple has gained attention due to the recent efforts to revive and promote it as a religious and tourist destination.

BACKGROUND

​

It is believed that the Jaganath Temple dates back to the 12th Century.  According to folklore and research, the temple was founded by the ancestors of the local Nautiyal community who visited Puri.  

​

The Temple contains a unique idol.  The deity is worshipped in the form of a black stone with seven streaks, considered a manifestation of Lord Jaganath.  Locals regard it as their ancestral deity. 

 

The Temple's architecture reflects the ancient design.  It is described as a hidden gem, with emblems and folklore that resonates with Jaganath devotees.   â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
