Nestled near the Bhagirathi River, the Shakti Temple in Uttarkashi stands directly opposite the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Dedicated to Goddess Durga, this sacred and spiritually significant temple forms a powerful spiritual centre along with the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the heart of Uttarkashi.

The Shakti Temple is an ancient temple which dates back to the Medieval period. The iconic feature of the temple is a giant Trishul (measuring 6 mtrs in height) made of iron and copper which is revered as a divine relic. According to legend, this is the same Trishul which was used to destroy the demons and evil forces.

This temple is a key stop for pilgrims enroute to Gangotri and other parts of the Char Dham Yatra.

The best time to visit the Shakti Temple is March to June and September to November.
