Overview
Deoban Forest is a picturesque spot near Chakrata. The forest is located 13 kms from the Chakrata Market. Deoban means "God's own Forest". If you are looking for a peaceful retreat than this is it.

Situated at a height of 2200 mtrs to 3025 mtrs above sea level, the Deoban Forest offers visitors a scenic view of the hilly terrains. Vyas Shikar is the highest peak in Deoban where you can see the Himalayan ranges.

Surrounded by the dense forest of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak trees, Deoban is home to a number of bird species and animals. This is a popular spot for bird watchers. Some of the birds that can be spotted here include White Collared Blackbirds and Himalayan Woodpeckers. Migratory birds can also be seen during the winter season. Between the trees you will find green meadows.

The Deoban Forest is a reserved forest area and its access is controlled by the Forest Department. During winter, it snows heavily in this area and is not accessible. PWD has a rest house here (Forest Rest House). Cars can only reach this point after which there are no motorable roads. From here, one can trek up to Vyas Shikhar. It is believed that this is the location where Rishi Vyas wrote the Mahabharata!
