Overview
Located 5 kms from Haridwar on the banks of the Ganga River (Sapt Sarovar), Sapt Rishi Ashram is a beautiful old ashram that was established by Goswami Guru Dutt in 1943. This well maintained ashram has several rooms where guests can stay. The complex also contains a residential hostel and Sanskri school for poor children.

According to legend, there were seven great sages or Sapt Rishis named Kashyap, Vashisht, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagi, Bhardwaja and Gautam. One day, the Sapt Rishis were meditating on the banks of the River Ganga. Their meditation was interrupted by the heavy-gushing sound of the river flow and they trapped the river flow. As a result, the Ganga split into seven streams known as Sapt Sarovar and the place where they meditated is known as the Sapt Rishi Ashram.
