RUDRAPRAYAG

Rudraprayag is a district in Uttarakhand as well as a city and municipality.  It is known as one of the five confluences of the Alaknanda River with Mandakani River.  The holy city of Kedarnath is located 86 kms from Rudraprayag.  Rudraprayag is also known for the man-eating leopard who was hunted by Jim Corbett.

Situated at an elevation of 2,936 ft, Rudraprayag was affected by the 2013 floods which severely damaged several buildings and bridges.  It is characterized by mountainous terrain.  The key towns and cities in the district include Rudraprayag, an administrative centre as well as Augastmuni, Guptkashi, Ukhimath, the holy town of Kedarnath, Sonprayag, Chopta and Kalimath.

The nearest airport to Rudraprayag is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is 183 kms from Rudraprayag.  The nearest railway station is in Rishikesh.  Rudraprayag is well connected with a National Highway connecting Delhi with Badrinath near the Indo-Tibet border.  

The main attraction for Rudraprayag is the religious significance of the area. Devotees visit the area for the confluence of the two holy rivers.  There are also some temples in the area like  the Jagdamba Temple and the Shiva Temple.
