Overview

India has become a major destination for Yoga tourism.  The visit of the Beatles band to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Ashram in Rishikesh sparked a western interest in spirituality.  With many foreigners visiting India looking for authentic Yoga ashrams, yoga schools came up to train teachers and to promote Yoga.  This was taken further by the Ministry of Tourism  promoting India as a Yoga Tourism Hub.

An International Yoga Week is organized here every year by Uttarakhand Tourism in the first week of February.
